They are particularly useful for people who are missing all their teeth, and are unable to chew or speak properly. How Are Dentures Fitted Into The Mouth?

There are two methods of fitting dentures, immediate and conventional. mmediate dentures are fitted on the same day that the teeth are removed. Molds of the jaws are made beforehand. The denture will need to be adjusted later, as the jaw changes shape after the teeth are removed. You may even need to get a replacement denture.

Conventional dentures are fitted after the teeth have been removed, and the gums have completely healed. Impressions of the mouth are made after the teeth have been removed. The dentures will be fitted and adjusted, until they are a good fit.

Types of Dentures

There are three types of dentures available. The type of denture you get will depend on how many teeth you have remaining and how healthy they are.
  • Complete dentures are used to replace all the teeth for the entire jaw. They provide fake teeth and gums for all the teeth on the upper law, the lower jaw or the entire mouth.
  • Partial dentures are used to replace some teeth on the jaw. They are fitted around the remaining teeth. They provide artificial teeth and gums, which are connected by a metal framework and held in place with clasps.
  • Over dentures are similar to a partial denture, except they fit on the remaining teeth, instead of around them. They can also be fitted on dental implants.
